I think that the equal rights amendment is necessary but not. Many women want this to be passed because it will finally be fact that women and men are completely equal. I think that would be great, but it seems that women and men are already equal. Although some jobs still pay men more than women, it's only by fractions. There is nothing really against women today, but I think that women want this passed because it will law that they are treated and respected as equals.

Was Jackie Robinson the greatest civil rights figure?
I think that it would be a stretch that say that Jackie Robinson was the greatest civil rights figure during the civil rights movement. Jackie Robinson was definitely a very influential person during this time, but there were others that I believe to have made a better impression. Jackie Robinson broke the boundaries of baseball with his strong mind and great game skills. He was an excellent player on the baseball field and for the civil rights movement. He always knew exactly what he needed to do. He was most likely one of the biggest figures to be for nonviolent resistance, along with Martin Luther King, Jr. and various other figures at the time. He was definitely an excellent civil rights figure, but not as important as others who played a much larger role during this time period.

Yooks and Zooks
So the General Yook and the General Zook
Both stared each other down.
And held each Big-Boy Boomeroo nuke
Directed towards the opposite town.
And they stood for hours and days on end
While the Yooks and the Zooks stayed in their holes.
And for their buttering rights they stood to defend
Against their stubborn souls.
So they stood and they stood
And then stood some more.
Each wondering "If they should.."
Should start the war.

Prohibition
For the episode the producers of the Simpsons did for their show, it was pretty good. They got a lot of the details and things that were going on during the war quite accurate. For example, the speakeasies, mobs and gangs, and the corrupt police that didn't follow the law. Speakeasies are secrets bars that people would go to for alcohol and a good time. They portrayed the mobs and gangs very well because they showed how they were beginning to basically run the town of Springfield with alcohol and other things. As for the corrupt police, they would go to the speakeasies and drink and have a great time, but this made them corrupt because they were supposed to be enforcing this law, not allowing it. Over all, the producers made a great episode that was quite accurate with the actual event that took place.
I feel like the scene with the catapult was unnecessary for the episode, mainly because of how innaccurate it was with the actual events of Prohibition. If I could change this scene I would edit it so it was an actual punishment with the times. Of course, I would still have it so Homer could get out because he's the best.

Reflection...
Should U.S. citizens be forced to give up civil liberties during a time of war? Should the govt. have to enforce loyalty?
Why should we give up our freedom of speech during war? Is it not our inalienable human right to say what we think? There is no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to speak our thoughts and opinions openly, not even war. The first amendment in the Constitution gives us the freedom of speech, so the government has no right to restrain our voices; it's purely unconstitutional.

Yellow Journalism
U.S.S. Maine - - - Accident or Murder?
Earlier today the U.S.S. Maine was destroyed by an unforeseen "freak accident" off the coast of Cuba. Estimated deaths are about 250 sailors, but the count has yet to be finalized. The cause of the accident is obvious -- it was a Spanish attack! There have been recent reports and anonymous tips coming in and informing us of their conspiring and apparent involvement. It is believed that the Spanish either bombed the ship and the innocent victims, or took over the ship and then sank it after robbing it of our riches. The Spanish have always had it out for us, and now we have no choice but to proceed into war!
